Alexander Korczynski wrapped up his collegiate career as a First Team All-American in the 3000m steeplechase Friday, finishing eighth in the Final at the NCAA Championships at Historic Hayward Field.
Korczynski did not dive across the finish line this time, instead stretching across it at 8:29.42, marking a new personal best and a new school record after he set the previous record Wednesday night in the NCAA Semifinal.
This marks Northeastern's first First Team All-American at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since Kyle Darrow placed sixth in the long jump at the 2018 NCAA Championships. It is a fitting end to what is one of the most successful track & field careers Northeastern has ever seen.
Korczynski began running for the Huskies in 2018 as a freshman and has battled through the year lost to COVID-19 as well as an injury during the 2022-2023 track seasons. Since his freshman year, the Willimantic, Connecticut native has won four CAA gold medals in the steeplechase, two CAA individual cross country titles, qualified for three NCAA Outdoor Championships and broke a 47-year-old school record in the steeplechase.
On top of success at the meet, his time also earns him automatic qualification to the U.S. Olympic Trials right back in Eugene at Hayward Field, beginning June 21.
Next for the Huskies, fifth year Dominique Biron takes on her fourth heptathlon event of the day in the 200m dash at 10:43 p.m. ET on ESPN and will finish the meet Saturday, June 8 with three more events, beginning with the long jump at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
