CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (0-1, 0-0 CAA) battled fiercely, but fell 3-1 to Boston College (1-0, 0-0 CAA) at The Field Hockey Complex Friday evening in the season opener.
- The Eagles scored the first two goals of the contest off a corner and open play to take an early 2-0 lead.
- Graduate student back Caroline Sweeney grabbed Northeastern's first of the game with 40 seconds left in the first quarter, scoring off a deflected assist from graduate student back Lauren Rowe on a corner to cut the deficit in half.
- Boston College reclaimed a two-goal advantage from another corner to make it 3-1 going into the half.
- Despite both sides having multiple opportunities, the score remained the same until the final whistle.
- Senior goalkeeper Kristi Merashoff recorded nine saves on 12 shot attempts.
