DEDHAM, Mass. — The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (1-1) used two early second-half goals to come from behind and defeat the Quinnipiac Bobcats (0-2) by a score of 3-2 in Sunday afternoon's home opener at Dedham Field.
- The Huskies applied early pressure to the visitors with four shots on goal to start the contest. They finished with 15 shots on goal, the most since last year's game against Hofstra (10/22/23).
- Quinnipiac responded, though, earning a penalty corner and scoring the game's first goal 10:37 into the first quarter. They extended their lead with another goal from a penalty corner halfway through the second.
- The Huskies bounced back just before the half with a goal from graduate student back Lauren Rowe, who scored off a penalty corner with 1:58 remaining on the clock for her first of the season. Graduate student back Caroline Sweeney and senior back Maria Armaganian supplied the assists.
- Junior midfielder Emmy Stubbs provided the equalizer, sending a shot from senior midfielder Lara Taylor that trickled over the goalkeeper's pads to make it 2-2 with 8:15 remaining in the third.
- Sophomore forward Alex Mega grabbed the go-ahead goal with 5:22 remaining in the third, hitting a shot off the post and scoring on the rebound to give Northeastern a 3-2 advantage and its first lead of the afternoon.
- Northeastern would control possession for the remainder of the contest, holding off multiple Bobcat attacks to secure its first win of the season.
Next up, the Huskies set off to California for three games, starting with a matchup against California on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. The matchup can be streamed on ESPN+ and ACCNX.
