BERKELEY, Calif. — The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (1-2, 0-0 CAA) displayed their resilience by tying the game from behind multiple times. However, they fell in the final minutes to the California Golden Bears (2-0, 0-0 ACC) by a score of 3-2 Thursday evening.
- The Golden Bears grabbed the contest's opening goal, scoring a tap-in from a penalty corner at 10:45 in the first quarter.
- Northeastern responded with an equalizer minutes later. Graduate student midfielder Lauren Rowe slotted a shot into the bottom left of the cage from a penalty corner to level the score with 2:27 left in the quarter.
- California would reclaim the lead with another penalty corner early in the second, when a shot from the top of the circle took a deflection and rolled into the bottom left corner.
- Both teams defended multiple penalty corners effectively in the second half. Northeastern found its second equalizer of the game on its fourth penalty corner of the third, as graduate student forward Mak Graves sent a rocket into the cage with 48 seconds remaining on the clock.
- With 3:48 left on the clock, California would score the game-winning goal on a deflected shot in the circle to secure the victory.
