CHICAGO – Brynn Smith tallied her first collegiate double-double, but the Northeastern volleyball team (2-5) fell to the Loyola Chicago Ramblers (3-5) on Saturday afternoon.
Making her collegiate debut in front of the home crowd, the Long Grove, Illinois native had a performance to remember with a game-high 13 kills on .393 hitting with 10 digs and a block.
- Set One: The Ramblers got off to an early 9-4 lead, and didn't look back in the frame. The Huskies battled, trimming the deficit to 12-9 after a Smith kill, but Loyola Chicago responded back. The Ramblers extended their advantage to 23-17 down the stretch, and ultimately took the set at 25-20.
- Set Two: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than one. The hosts though, tallied three straight points to pull ahead at 10-7. Northeastern fought back with four straight points highlighted by two kills from Georgia Stavrinides to trim the deficit to 19-17, but the Ramblers responded with four points of their own (23-17). Loyola Chicago went on to take two of the next four points to win the set at 25-19.
- Set Three: The Ramblers' offense took off in the frame, storming out to a 13-6 advantage. Another kill by Loehr trimmed the deficit to 19-13, but the hosts tallied the next four points to put the set back out of reach for good. Loyola Chicago hit .342 overall and won at 25-16.
- Kinley Gomez notched nine kills and five digs.
- Stavrinides tallied eight kills on .467 hitting with four blocks.
- Nadia Koanui recorded a team-high 16 digs.
- Carly Cooper and Arina Sosinovica each dished out 11 assists.
The Huskies will close out the Loyola Chicago Invitational on Sunday, September 15 against Utah. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. (ET).
