CHICAGO – Kinley Gomez tallied a team-high nine kills, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern volleyball team (2-6) fell to the Utah Utes (7-1) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.
- Set One: Northeastern got off to an early 5-4 lead, highlighted by two kills from Georgia Stavrinides. Utah though, tallied eight of the next nine points to take a 13-5 advantage. The Huskies tallied four straight points to trim the deficit to 17-11, but the Utes responded back with four points of their own. Utah ultimately took the set at 25-17.
- Set Two: Utah took an early 7-3 advantage, but the Huskies remained within striking distance. Back-to-back kills from Stavrinides and Gomez made it 10-7, but the Utes responded with the next two points. Utah extended their lead to 18-10 down the stretch and won the set at 25-16.
- Set Three: The Utes continued to push the pace in the frame, opening with a 9-6 lead. Northeastern though, battled back to trim the deficit to 9-8 after three straight kills by Gomez. A few points later, a kill by Jane Nelson and an error made the score close at 14-12, but the Utes responded back. Utah hit .364 overall and took the set at 25-17.
- Nadia Koanui tallied a team-high 12 digs.
- Stavrinides recorded seven kills.
- Millie Loehr chipped in with four kills and two blocks.
- Arina Sosinovica dished out a team-high 12 assists.
The Huskies will open CAA play at home against UNCW on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. on both days, and will stream on FloVolleyball.
