WORCESTER, Mass. — The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (3-4, 0-0 CAA) earned a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon, as junior midfielder Emmy Stubbs scored the game-winning goal with just over a minute to go in regulation against the Holy Cross Crusaders (3-2, 0-0 Patriot).
- The Huskies nearly scored the opening goal on a shot from senior forward Kate Blaisdell, but a Crusader defender cleared off the line to keep the score level heading into the second.
- With 4:16 remaining in the half, freshman midfielder Olivia Yelen capitalized on a Holy Cross turnover, sending a pass to sophomore forward Alex Mega in the circle, who crushed shot on net that deflected off Stubbs' stick and snuck past the goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead.
- Holy Cross found an equalizer five minutes out of the half, as quick build-up play in the Northeastern circle allowed the Crusaders an easy tap-in goal.
- Both sides earned multiple penalty corners in search of the go-ahead goal, but neither side could find one to put in the back of the cage.
- With just over a minute remaining in the contest, Stubbs collected her second of the afternoon and the game-winner on another deflection after graduate student Lauren Rowe delivered a shot from the top of the Holy Cross circle. The Huskies would see out the remaining time to take a 2-1 victory.
- Mega led all players with four shots on goal, followed by Stubbs and Rowe with two each.
- Stubbs is the first Husky to record a multi-goal game this season.
