DAVIS, Calif. — The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (1-3, 0-0 CAA) grabbed a two-goal lead but fell to the UC Davis Aggies (2-0, 0-0 AE) after they scored three straight goals, taking a 3-2 victory Friday afternoon.
- The Huskies took control early, scoring the opening goal from a penalty corner at 8:57 in the first quarter. Graduate student midfielder Lauren Rowe collected the goal after it deflected off an Aggie and floated into the back of the cage.
- Junior midfielder Lilly Smith doubled the lead for Northeastern midway through the second, as a good linkup play from sophomore forward Alex Mega and senior midfielder Alana Fields found its way to Smith, who calmly finished it to build the advantage to 2-0.
- UC Davis threatened coming out of the half, earning a penalty kick early in the third quarter. However, senior goalkeeper Kristi Merashoff made a diving save to keep the Aggies scoreless.
- UC Davis scored its first goal with 32 seconds remaining in the quarter, cutting the deficit in half heading into the final period of play.
- The hosts found the equalizer 2:24 into the fourth after the forward looped a ball over Merashoff's frame. UC followed up by collecting the go-ahead goal from a penalty corner with 1:45 remaining to seal the victory.
