STANFORD, Calif. — The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (2-3, 0-0 CAA) closed out its west coast road trip by taking care of business, keeping a clean sheet en route to a 1-0 victory over the Stanford Cardinal (3-1, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon.
- Despite both teams earning multiple penalty corners, the first half of play was a stalemate as neither side could find the opening goal.
- 4:39 into the third quarter, senior midfielder Lara Taylor sent a ball into the circle that ended up at the feet of junior midfielder Emmy Stubbs. Stubbs then perfectly placed her shot into the top left corner to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
- The Huskies nearly doubled their lead after senior forward Alana Fields' shot snuck by the Cardinal goalkeeper, but the goal was disallowed due to an infraction.
- Northeastern hunkered down defensively, holding Stanford to five shots and one penalty corner in the second half. Graduate student defender Caroline Sweeney and senior midfielder Maria Armaganian played all 60 minutes of the contest to help guide the Huskies to victory.
- Graduate student defender Lauren Rowe led the game with four shots on goal, followed by graduate student forward Mak Graves and Stubbs with three each.
- Senior goalkeeper Kristi Merashoff recorded her first clean sheet of the season to go along with two saves.
Northeastern returns to the east coast for two more road games, starting with No. 10 Syracuse on Friday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. (EST). The matchup can be streamed on ACCNX.
