BOSTON – Georgia Stavrinides tallied a team-high 11 kills on .320 hitting, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern volleyball team (2-3) fell to the FGCU Eagles (5-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
- Set One: The Eagles stormed out to an early 7-3 lead, and didn't look back in the frame. A kill by Arina Sosinovica trimmed the deficit to 14-8, but FGCU responded with five straight points. The Eagles hit .300 overall and took the set at 25-12.
- Set Two: The Huskies tallied seven straight points to start the set and continued to hold onto the momentum. A few points later, a kill and ace by Millie Loehr extended the advantage to 14-4. Stavrinides put the set out of reach with three kills down the stretch, and NU took frame at 25-17. Northeastern outhit FGCU .275 to .098 in the set.
- Set Three: The FGCU offense began to roll again, tallying 10 straight points in the frame to take a 15-7 lead. The Eagles hit .370 overall, and took the set 25-13.
- Set Four: The Eagles offense continued to push the pace, recording an early 13-5 lead. Kills from Loehr and Olivia Alicante trimmed the deficit to 22-13, but the Eagles responded right back to ultimately take the set at 25-16.
- Nadia Koanui tallied a team-high 18 digs.
- Carly Cooper dished out a team-high 12 assists and nine digs.
- Kinley Gomez and Jane Nelson each notched six kills.
The Huskies will close out their home tournament on Sunday, September 8 against Dartmouth. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. on FloVolleyball.
