Northeastern Competes At UMass Flagship Invitational

BOSTON – Several Huskies made their season debut and set new personal bests as the Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams competed at the UMass Flagship Invitational, hosted at the Track at New Balance Sunday afternoon.
 
Track Events:
  • Freshman Nico Boyle and sophomore Ryan Sarney kicked off the afternoon, crossing the finish line together in the 1 mile. Boyle took seventh with a time of 4:14.37 before Sarney crossed the line .17 seconds later to earn eighth.
  • In the men's 800m, sophomore Andrew Kenny crossed the line in fifth with a 1:53.98 mark, followed by freshman Ajay Raina in eighth with a 1:54.86.
  • Many Huskies competed in the women's 1000m, led by graduate student Lena Lebrun, who finished second with a time of 2:48.70. Her time put her fourth on the All-Time Performance List. Senior Nicole Dunbury (2:52.80), senior Vivian McMahon (2:55.63), and sophomore Kiera Gamily (2:56.41) followed, earning top 10 finishes in the event. Of the top 20 finishers in the event, eleven of them were Northeastern runners.
  • Graduate student Tyler Brogan led all Huskies in the men's 1000m, setting a mark of 2:26.13 for second place. Junior Conall Rogers (2:28.10) and freshman Jacob Redman (2:28.20) were next, taking fourth and fifth after finishing a tenth of a second apart from each other. Graduate student Daniel Caso rounded out the Huskies with eighth place and a time of 2:28.94, a new personal best.
  • Northeastern's B Team, comprised of N. Dunbury, Lebrun, freshman Alanna Hagen, and senior Lucy Abdow crossed the line at 4:02.19 to take fifth in the women's 4x400.
  • In the men's 4x400, the A-Team of Raina, Brogan, Rogers, and Redman also ran to a fifth-place finish, setting a 3:23.45 mark.
  • The track events for Northeastern concluded with the women's 4x800, where McMahon, graduate student Stephanie Kriss, sophomore Natasha Sortland, and senior Lauren Trejo won the event after crossing the line at 9:28.17.
Field Events:
  • The Huskies began the invitational with the women's pole vault, where sophomore Hannah Shaw reached a height of 3.20m for 18th. Sophomore Cassandra Cinzori followed in 20th after vaulting to 3.05m, and sophomore Katie Rodriguez rounded out the event with a 3.05m mark and 22nd place finish.
  • Senior Athanasios Pantazopolous led all Huskies in the men's pole vault, reaching a height of 4.85m to take second, matching his personal best. Junior Max Zuckermann continued the strong performances, earning fifth after vaulting to 4.55m. Sophomore Alexander Yuen concluded the event with a ninth-place finish and a 4.40m mark.
 
The Huskies now focus on preparing for the Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston University, and the Collegiate Showdown at the Track at New Balance on Saturday, Jan. 18.
