No. 15 NU Takes On Providence In Home-And-Home Series

BOSTON— The No. 15 Northeastern women's hockey team is set for a home-and-home series with the Providence College Friars beginning on the road on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. The Huskies will then host the Friars on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. in Matthews Arena for their Alumni and Taylor Swift game. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+.
 
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. BEAN THERE BEFORE: The Huskies are jumping back into Hockey East play after defeating No. 12 Boston College, 4-2, on Tuesday night in the Beanpot Semifinals to advance to the Championship game on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in TD Garden. The Huskies will face the No. 14 Boston University Terriers for the second-straight year in the Championship game, as NU vies for a record 20th Beanpot title overall and third-straight.
  2. FRESHMEN ARE FEELING IT: Freshman Éloïse Caron has posted six goals and 12 assists for 18 points, tied for first among Hockey East freshmen. Her +12 rating is second-best among all Hockey East players. Freshman Tuva Kandell has posted two goals and nine assists for 11 points. Her 11 points lead all rookie defensemen in Hockey East, and rank tied for second nationally. Freshman Morgan Jackson had the game-opening goal in the Beanpot against BC. Jackson, Caron and Kandell all got on the scoresheet in the Beanpot. Additionally, freshman netminder Lisa Jönsson leads all goaltenders nationally with a 1.09 GAA and .958 save percentage.
  3. THE SKATING FRIARS: Northeastern and Providence are set to close out a three-game Hockey East series this weekend. The Friars took game one of the series, 2-1, on Oct. 25. Freshman Tuva Kandell scored her first career goal in the loss. The Huskies are looking for their first win in Schneider Arena since, Oct. 28, 2022 a 4-1 victory for NU. Providence enters this game riding a four-game winning streak with all four wins coming in Hockey East play. The Friars have outscored their opponents 13-5 over the win streak. Reichen Kirchmair is Providence's leading scorer with 19 points, tied with the Huskies' Skylar Irving for third-most among Hockey East players. Hope Walinski has played the bulk of minutes in net for PC, she owns a .927 save percentage and 1.79 GAA.
Northeastern will next face Boston University in the Beanpot Championship at TD Garden on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
