TOWSON, MD - Abigail Jegede and Natalie Larranaga combined to score 29 total points, but the Huskies fell to the Towson Tigers 79-43 on the road Friday.
The Huskies (1-12, 0-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Jegede, who had 18 points. Larranaga tacked on 11 points and seven rebounds and Alyssa Staten added two points and 11 rebounds.
Led by Staten's six offensive rebounds, Northeastern controlled the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-2, Northeastern went on a 6-0 run with 6:10 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Camille Clement, to narrow its deficit to 9-8. Towson answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Huskies down 12-10 entering the second quarter.
Northeastern then started off the second quarter by going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Larranaga, to take a 16-12 lead. The Tigers then came roaring back to take a 30-26 lead heading into halftime.
Towson continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 45-32 advantage before Northeastern went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Jegede, to trim its deficit to 45-37 with 1:56 to go in the third. Towson countered and stretched its lead to 49-37 heading into the fourth. Northeastern played well near the basket, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.
Northeastern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 79-43.
The Huskies return to Cabot to face off against William & Mary this Sunday. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
