BOSTON, MA --The Northeastern women's basketball team fell 74-66 to the William & Mary Tribe on Sunday afternoon in the Cabot Center.
The Huskies (1-13, 0-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Abby Jegede, who had 24 points, five assists and two steals. Natalie Larrañaga added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists and Yirsy Quéliz chipped in as well with 11 points.
After falling behind 2-0, Northeastern went on a 5-0 run with 8:05 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Maria Sanchez Pitarch, to take a 5-2 lead. The Huskies entered the quarter break with a 17-16 advantage.William & Mary rallied to take a 22-21 lead before Northeastern went on a 5-0 run starting at the 6:08 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Quéliz, to take a 26-22 lead. The Tribe cut into that lead, but the Huskies held a 40-37 advantage heading into halftime.
NU continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Quéliz, to expand its lead further to 47-39 with 7:07 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Tribe had cut into that lead, but the Huskies still entered the fourth quarter with a 57-51 edge.
William & Mary then erased the Huskies' lead in the game's final quarter for a 74-66 comeback victory.
Northeastern will next hit the road for two games beginning with a trip to Stony Brook on Friday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
