BOSTON – The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams women won several events and broke multiple program records en route to a successful day at the Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston University, Saturday afternoon.
Track Events:
- The day began with the women's 60m Hurdles prelim, where freshman Jaice Dorsey won her heat with a time of 8.84. Dorsey would finish second in the 60m Hurdles final, crossing the line at 8.74.
- In the men's 60m Hurdles prelims, senior Paul Wisnaskas finished eighth with an 8.80 to qualify for the final. He went on to earn eighth with an 8.99 mark.
- Sophomore Savannah Blair found another gear in the women's 60m prelims, cruising to a win in the second with a time of 7.53. Blair earned second overall in the 60m final, setting a new personal best and program record of 7.42.
- The personal bests continued, as sophomore Brunner Williams continued his hot start to this season by taking second in the men's 60m qualifier with a 6.85 mark. Williams would win the 60m Final after running a 6.81 for a new personal best time, tying him for fifth on the All-Time Performance List.
- In the women's mile, graduate students Abigail Hassman, Lena Lebrun, and Azza Borovicka-Swanson all earned top-ten finishes. Hassman led the trio with a fourth-place finish and time of 4:39.70, while Lebrun followed close behind in sixth with a 4:49.44, adding her name to the All-Time Performance list for the second straight week. Borovicka-Swanson rounded out in ninth at 4:54.72 for Northeastern.
- Graduate student Tyler Brogan crossed the line in sixth in the men's mile with a 4:07.87 mark. Freshman Jacob Redman (4:13.49) and graduate student Daniel Caso (4:15.23) earned top 20 finishes, respectively.
- Freshman Alanna Hagen and sophomore Brittani Westberry earned ninth and tenth in the women's 600m.
- Junior Ariann Robinson was the runner-up in the women's 400m after running a 56.44, while freshman Morgan Hayward (57.82) and Sloan Hinton (58.47) ran for fifth and seventh. On the men's side, sophomore Johnny Emmanuel clocked a 48.41 to win the event.
- Sophomore Alex Landry crossed the line in fifth with a time of 34.41, a new personal best.
- Graduate student Ava Duggan won the women's 800m with a 2:09.78, and Borovicka-Swanson (2:17.00) and sophomore Kiera Gamily (2:19.08) both earned top ten finishes.
- Sophomore Andrew Kenny ran to a fourth-place finish and a new personal best of 1:51.73. Freshman Ajay Raina followed in fifth with a 1:52.62 mark.
- Robinson ran the women's 200m in 25 seconds flat to take fifth, and freshman Ailani Sutherland crossed the line in tenth at 25.63.
- Williams concluded his meet with a victory and program record in the men's 200m, crossing the line at 21.13 to seal his evening.
- Graduate student Benjamin Godish set a new personal best and program record in the men's 3000m, finishing third at 7:51.73. Sophomore Ryan Sarney also set a new personal best of 8:18.59 to earn tenth.
- In the men's 4x400, the A-Team of Kenny, Caso, Redman, and Raina capped off the meet with first place after running a 3:15.36.
Field Events:
- Junior Leila Curtis kicked things off for the Huskies, tossing a distance of 13.16m in the Jarred Rome women's shot put to claim fifth. Graduate student Madeleine DuChaussee threw a 12.91 for seventh.
- In the men's Jarred Rome, sophomore Mark Etienvre tossed a new personal best of 15.10m to finish fifth, while sophomore Ohan Ambartsoumian earned seventh with a 14.64m toss.
- Sophomore Ian Solberg was runner-up in the men's high jump, clearing the bar at 1.95m. Wisnaskas tied for fourth with a leap of 1.90m.
- Senior Athanasios Pantazopolous finished first in the men's pole vault with a 4.60m mark. Junior's Max Zuckerman (4.30m), Kevin Xu (4.00m), and freshman Colin Troan (4.00m) all earned top-ten finishes in the event as well.
- Junior Liangie Calderon (16.32m) and graduate student Hope Belvit (16.26m) finished fifth and sixth in the women's weight throw.
- In the women's high jump, junior Mia Belanger tied for second after clearing the bar at 1.65m, and sophomore Camryn Cole finished right behind with a leap of 1.60m.
- Graduate student Nicholas Pisciotta threw an 18.84m toss in the men's weight throw, earning third place. Junior Tremain Robinson took fourth with a toss of 18.05m.
Looking ahead, the Huskies focus their attention on the River Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell. The event will take place on January 24-25 at the Track at New Balance.
