THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BEANS: Northeastern captured a record 20th Beanpot Championship with a 4-0 victory over Boston University in front of 13,279 fans, the fifth-largest women's college hockey crowd of all-time, at TD Garden on Tuesday. It marked the Huskies third-straight Beanpot title. Freshman Lisa Jönsson was named the Beanpot MVP and Bertagna Award winner as the tournament's top goaltender. She made 65 saves on 67 shots through two games, including a 30-save shutout performance in the championship game. Jönsson is the second-ever goaltender and first-ever freshman to win both awards in the same year. Graduate student Lily Yovetich, senior Lily Shannon, graduate student Jaden Bogden and senior Skylar Irving all scored in the Beanpot final for the Huskies, with Yovetich potting the game-winning goal. Bogden posted a three-point performance in the Championship game.
- BLOCK IT LIKE IT'S HOT: Northeastern has blocked 339 shots this year, the most of any Hockey East team. The Huskies had a season-high 27 blocks against No. 15 Boston University in the Beanpot Championship. Senior Tory Mariano has posted 48 blocks to lead the Huskies and second-most of any Hockey East player.
- A MERRI GAME DAY TO YOU: Northeastern returns to Hockey East action with a home-and-home series against the Warriors. Northeastern won the lone matchup earlier this season, 3-1. Bogden led the Huskies with two points against the Warriors. The Warriors enter this game after posting back-to-back ties against Holy Cross and winning both shootouts. Merrimack leads Hockey East with a .241 power-play percentage. The Warriors have posted 13 power-play goals, led by Maria Lindberg who has a team-high four. Lindberg leads MC with 16 points. Calli Hogarth has played the bulk of minutes in net for Merrimack and posted 31 saves against the Huskies earlier this season. She owns a 2.74 GAA and .906 save percentage.Â
