WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ -- Abigail Jegede and Natalie Larrañaga combined to score 29 total points, but the Huskies fell to the Monmouth Hawks 69-46 on the road Sunday. Jegede led the Huskies with 19 points, six rebounds and two steals. Larrañaga added 10 points and Alyssa Staten chipped in as well with eight points and nine rebounds.
Led by Staten's four offensive rebounds, Northeastern crashed the offensive glass well, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in eight second chance points. The Northeastern defense held Monmouth shooters to just 40 percent from the field.
How It Happened
Northeastern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-19 halftime deficit. Northeastern started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 52-33 by the end of the third quarter. Northeastern played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 14 points in the paint.
Northeastern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 69-46. Northeastern took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 fourth quarter points in the paint.
The Huskies return to Cabot for a two-game home slate, starting with Drexel on Friday, January 31 at 3 p.m.
