PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Alyssa Staten totaled 14 rebounds, but the Northeastern women's basketball team fell to the Drexel Dragons 70-55 on the road Sunday.
Staten added eight points to her 14-rebound game for the Huskies (1-10, 0-2). Abigail Jegede helped out with 16 points and three steals and Natalie Larrañaga chipped in with 11 points and three steals.
Northeastern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 41-25 halftime deficit.
Drexel continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 57-39 advantage before Northeastern went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Yirsy Queliz, to trim its deficit to 57-44 with 23 seconds to go in the third. Drexel countered and stretched its lead to 60-44 heading into the fourth. Northeastern knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Northeastern narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 70-55. Northeastern took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.
