HAMPTON, Va. – Opening up a CAA weekend road trip, the Northeastern Huskies (12-10, 4-5 CAA) took down the Hampton Pirates (10-12, 3-7 CAA) by a score of 78-69 at the Convocation Center. Led by 16 points from
Harold Woods, 12 from
LA Pratt, and 11 each from
Rashad King and
JB Frankel, the Huskies held a lead as large as 30 points in the second half before the Pirates cut into it late.
Woods' team-high 16 came on 7-for-12 shooting, 2-for-3 from long range, along with six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
LA Pratt's 12 came on 5-for-8 shooting, while adding five rebounds and five assists to the cause. King tallied five points in the first and six in the second while dishing out seven assists in the contest, while Frankel notched all his 11 in the first on 3-for-6 three-point shooting.
Alexander Nwagha grabbed the team-high in rebounds with seven boards, along with two assists and two buckets.
Northeastern once again shot the ball well, finishing with a 53% shooting percentage from the floor and 40% (10-for-25) behind the arc. It was the second time this season the Huskies made 10 or more long range shots, after making 11 at Towson on January 9
th. Along with a high shooting percentage, Northeastern also took advantage of Hampton's 15 turnovers with 21 points off TO's, 15 points in fast break situations, and 14 points following an offensive rebound. Northeastern also outscored Hampton in the paint, 42-26.
The Huskies started the game strong, scoring the first three buckets of the contest, and making 10 of their first 14 attempts. NU ended the first half with a 58.1% mark from the field, 50% (5-for-10) from distance. Woods and Frankel each notched 11 in the opening period to pace the Huskies to a 19-point lead at half time.
Northeastern started the second half similarly, on a 10-0 run to set the tone. Northeastern held two 30-point leads in the half, notching 34 points on 48% shooting, but the Pirates ultimately cut into the lead in the final three minutes for the final score of 78-69. Hampton's George Beal Jr. led the way for the home team with a game-high 19 points.
