TOWSON, Md. – The Northeastern Huskies (9-7, 1-2 CAA) got 22 points from
LA Pratt, 18 points from
Rashad King, and a career-high 16 points from
JB Frankel, but were unable to best the Towson Tigers (7-9, 2-1 CAA) at TU Arena on Thursday night, falling by a score of 80-73.
The Huskies outscored the Tigers 37-30 in the first, despite the Tigers taking an early 12-6 lead to begin the game. Northeastern stormed back with a 16-3 run to take a commanding 22-15 lead. After the game evened out at a 26-26 scoreline, NU once again pulled away with four straight buckets in the final four minutes, from
Rashad King,
JB Frankel, and
LA Pratt.
King led all scorers at halftime with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc. The Huskies grabbed 20 rebounds to Towson's 14 in the first half, including nine offensive rebounds accounting for 12 second-chance points.
A close game in the second half saw both teams trading leads until the final 10 minutes of regulation, with the Huskies holding a four-point lead twice in the final 10, before Towson took the lead for good with 6:25 to play. A late
JB Frankel three-pointer with 1:31 to play cut the Towson lead down to just two, but offensive rebounds and second chance points for the Tigers allowed them to pull out of range of the Huskies.
Pratt's 22 points led all scorers in the contest, as he finished 9-for-18 from the floor, 3-for-6 from behind the arc, while also tallying three rebounds and one assist.
Rashad King's 18 came from 6-of-17 shooting, 4-of-10 from deep, with five rebounds and two assists.
JB Frankel tallied a career-high four three-pointers on his way to a 16-point night.
Harold Woods also finished in double figures with 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
The Huskies were outrebounded 40-34 in the contest, and shot just 50% (6-for-12) at the line, while Towson had a 76% (13-for-17) success rate at the charity stripe.
The Huskies continue their CAA weekend road trip with a Saturday evening contest at Stony Brook on January 11
