Huskies Secure Road Win Over Rhode Island, 156-143

Kingston, R.I. – The Northeastern women's swimming and diving team (2-0) remained unbeaten on Saturday, Oct. 18, earning a 156-143 victory over Rhode Island (2-1). The Huskies were led by standout performances from freshman Abigail Gowern, who won the 1000 Free for the second straight meet, senior Mary Nordmann, who claimed wins in both the 50 Free and 100 Fly and freshman Alex Fuller who won first place in both the 100 Back and 100 Free.
 
  • For the diving portion of the meet, freshman Kailyn Aquino earned a third place finish in the 1M for Northeastern, scoring a 256.35. In the 3M, it was senior Anelise Kim who got the third place podium finish, scoring a 242.18.
  • In the 1000 Free, Northeastern's freshman Abigail Gowern finished in first place for the second meet in a row. Gowern touched the wall at 10:39.62, fellow freshman Siena Griffiths followed close behind clinching second place with a time of 10:44.74.
  • In the fourth event of the meet, the 100 Back, Northeastern swept the podium. Freshman Alex Fuller took first followed by Delaney Alonso, Sophie Bromley and Teagen Osga. 
  • The 100 Breast was championed by graduate student Elisabeth Bendall. Bendall finished the race at 1:07.11.
  • An impressively close 50 Free ended with a win for junior Mary Nordmann, touching the wall at 24.06. Only .01 seconds behind her, was junior May Bradburn.
  • The Huskies picked back up with the wins in event nine, the 100 Free. Alex Fuller reached the wall at 52.62.
  • Northeastern again swept the podium in the 200 Back, with senior Anna Verlander leading the way, followed by Bromley and Osga.
  • The freshman continued their dominance as Marea Li was the 200 Breast champion with a time of 2:25.21.  This time was a .15 improvement from her previous race. 
  • Mary Nordmann continued her success with a first place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.92. 
  • In the fifteenth event, freshman Alex campion won the 200 IM for the Huskies. Alex is no stranger to the IM as she also placed first in the previous meet versus Vermont. 
  • Overall, the Huskies prevailed in this tight meet, with a score of 156-143. 
 
Next up, the Huskies take on the tri-meet on Friday, Oct. 24 against MIT and Harvard. The 6:30 p.m. meet will take place at MIT.
