WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— The Northeastern volleyball team (7-12, 3-7 CAA) fell in straight sets to William & Mary (8-13, 3-7 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
William & Mary def. Northeastern: 26-24, 25-19, 25-20
Set One: The opening frame was tightly contested throughout, featuring five tie scores and two lead changes. Northeastern jumped ahead 12-6 behind strong play from
Zehra Yilmaz, but William & Mary clawed back to tie it 12-12. The Huskies extended their lead to 22-17 on a service ace from Svenja Rodenbuesch, forcing a William & Mary timeout. The Tribe responded with an 8-0 run, going on to win the set 26-24.
Set Two: William & Mary dominated the second set from start to finish, building an 11-9 lead. The Tribe pushed their advantage to 18-15 on a kill from Nicole Smith, then extended to 22-17 on another Smith connection. Despite a brief Northeastern rally to come within 22-19 on a kill from
Emma Rowell, William & Mary closed decisively on a 3-0 run. The Tribe claimed the 25-19 victory and 2-0 match lead.
Set Three: William & Mary continued their momentum in the decisive third set, racing out to a 7-3 lead. The Huskies fought back to 12-9 on service aces from
Sofia King and
Valentina Meirelles, however the Tribe pulled away with a 7-3 run, extending their lead to 19-16. After a Northeastern timeout, William & Mary closed out the match with authority, scoring the final six points on a 6-1 run. The Tribe earned the 25-20 victory and completed the sweep.

Northeastern is back in action next at home, hosting Hampton for two games beginning on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
