BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday night as the Huskies travel to crosstown rival Harvard for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Lavietes Pavilion on ESPN+.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Â
1. SERIES HISTORY VS. HARVARD
The Huskies and Harvard are meeting for the fifth straight season, and 62nd time overall. The Crimson leads the series, 42-19, with Northeastern in search of their second straight win and first win at Lavietes Pavilion since 2018.
Â
Last season against the Crimson,
Ryan Williams went for 21 points to lead four players in double figures as Northeastern bolted out to a large first half lead and never looked back in a 78-56 win at Matthews Arena. The win was Northeastern's first over the Crimson since 2019 and the largest win over Harvard in program history (22 points).
Â
2. DOUBLE 'EM UP
Xander Alarie has started both games this season in his first collegiate action after transferring from Miami (FL), highlighted by a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double at Colgate on Friday night.
Â
He is the first Northeastern freshman to record a double-double since the 2016-17 season: Bolden Brace on Nov. 20, 2016 vs. Maine (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Maxime Boursiquot on Jan, 12, 2017 against Drexel (17 points, 11 rebounds).
Â
Alarie enters Tuesday's game ranked 23rd in the nation and leads the CAA averaging 8.0 defensive rebounds per game.
Â
3. LOUGHNANE LEGACY
Junior
Mike Loughnane joined the Huskies as a transfer from Davidson. As a sophomore in 2024-25, he appeared in 33 games (32 starts), finishing fifth on the team in scoring (5.1ppg). Loughnane was a three-time captain and is the all-time leading scorer at Boston College High School, where he helped them to a 2022 Massachusetts state championship before being named the 2022 Maxpreps Massachusetts Player of the Year.
Â
His father, Bill, played at Northeastern from 1976-80, and is the program's record holder in single-game assists (15 vs. Delaware on Dec. 29, 1977), and third in team history with 500 assists in 100 games.
