NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Yirsy Quéliz scored a game-high 22 points, but the Northeastern women's basketball team (1-3) fell to Merrimack (2-2) by a final score of 83-65 on Friday afternoon at Bert Hammel Court.
Quéliz connected on six three-pointers and added seven rebounds for the Huskies. Camryn Collins contributed 12 points, while Morgan Matthews finished with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Northeastern built a six-point lead in the third quarter but could not sustain the momentum against a hot-shooting Merrimack squad that dominated the fourth period.
The game remained tight through the first three quarters. Merrimack led 18-16 after one period before Northeastern battled back to tie the game at 33-33 at halftime. The Huskies outscored Merrimack 20-18 in the third quarter to take a 53-51 lead into the final frame.
Merrimack caught fire in the fourth quarter, outscoring Northeastern 32-12 over the final 10 minutes. The Warriors shot 70.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from three-point range in the decisive period. Molly Manion led the surge with 12 fourth-quarter points, while Lydia Melashenko added nine points in the frame. The final ended 83-65 in favor of the Warriors.
Northeastern will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 to face Providence on the road at 11 a.m..
