BOSTON - The Northeastern women's swimming & diving team (3-0) looks to build on its momentum as the Huskies travel to Storrs, Conn., to face UConn on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. The Huskies carry momentum from a victory over MIT into Saturday's match-up against UConn, where Northeastern looks to extend its series lead to 3-0 behind a freshman class and CAA Rookie Diver of the Month
Kailyn Aquino.
1. RIDING HIGH: The Huskies are coming off a strong 161-136 victory over MIT in a tri-meet scrimmage at the Zesiger Center Pool in Cambridge. Northeastern showcased its depth across multiple events, earning crucial points in both individual and relay competitions to secure the dual-meet win over the Engineers.
2. FRESHMAN STANDOUTS: The rookie class continued to shine in the tri-meet. Alex Fuller led the way with a victory in the 100 Free (51.08) and added a second-place finish in the 100 Fly (55.03). Abigail Gowern captured third place in the 1000 Free (10:29.74), while Marea Li placed fifth in the 100 Breast (1:07.06). On the boards, Kailyn Aquino earned sixth place on the 1-meter board (237.75) and ninth on the 3-meter board (229.85). Aquino was then named CAA Rookie Diver of the Month due to the success in her first month of competition.
3. A HUSKY VS HUSKY BATTLE: Northeastern and UCONN have met at the pool three times, with the NU Huskies taking two wins and a loss. Last season, the two teams competed in a very close meet but ultimately Northeastern won by just three points. This season, UCONN is currently 0-1, earning a loss from Villanova.
The Huskies return back to Boston to compete at the Terrier Invitational, spanning three days from Friday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 23.
