BOSTON – It's a quick turnaround for the Northeastern men's basketball team as the Huskies heads to Rhode Island on Monday night. Tip-off at the Ryan Center is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. SERIES HISTORY WITH RHODE ISLAND
Northeastern and Rhode Island will be meeting for the 80th time, and second time in the last three years. The Rams lead the all-time series, 70-9, including wins in the last 15 meetings, with the Huskies in search of their first victory since 1989. Head coach
Bill Coen worked on the Rhode Island staff under Al Skinner for eight seasons (1989-97), six as an assistant coach and two as a graduate assistant. During that time, the Rams enjoyed four seasons of postseason play, heading to the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and 1997 and receiving NIT bids in 1992 and 1996.
2. TOM MURPHY NAMED TO BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME BALLOT
After a career that spanned seven decades and resulted in more than 1000 victories at the high school, Division III and Division I levels, Tom Murphy has been named a nominee for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Murphy, who coached
Bill Coen at Hamilton College before hiring him as an assistant coach at his alma mater in 1987, was on Coen's staff at Northeastern for 19 years as an associate head coach and coordinator of basketball advancement before his retirement in 2025.
3. RYAN'S BIG DAY AT THE DOME
Sophomore
Ryan Williams made the most of his opportunity on Saturday at Syracuse, making his first start of the season and going for a team-high 20 points, one shy of tying a career-high. His 8-of-10 afternoon from the field were also tied for the most makes in his young career while adding three assists in 24 minutes of action.
