BOSTON -- Despite double-digit scoring performances from three different Huskies, the Northeastern University women's basketball team (3-6) fell to the undefeated UMass Minutewomen (7-0) by a score of 71-52 on Wednesday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
The Huskies had three players score in double figures, led by
Camryn Collins, who had 12 points and two rebounds.
Kailee Beaudion-Foliaki added a career-high 12 points in her first game since November 15
th on efficient 5-of-12 shooting, and
Nariyah Simmons chipped in with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Northeastern fell behind 18-7 by the end of the first quarter before rallying to cut the deficit to 38-23 at halftime. The Huskies shot just 25% from the field in the opening frame and never recovered despite a more efficient second quarter.
UMass continued to build its lead after halftime, stretching the advantage to 53-33 heading into the fourth quarter. The Minutewomen were paced by Megan Olbrys' 18 points and six rebounds, while Yahmani McKayle added 14 points on efficient 6-of-8 shooting.
Northeastern was outrebounded 40-26 in Wednesday's contest and struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just three of 14 attempts (21.4%). The Huskies' defense held UMass to 48% shooting from the field but couldn't generate enough offensive consistency to mount a serious comeback. The Huskies went on a 7-0 run in the final two minutes, paced by a pair of jumpers from Beaudion-Foliaki, but the damage had been done for the Minutewomen.
The Huskies have one game remaining in their non-conference schedule, with a quick trip to The Heights on Friday, December 19
th to face the Boston College Eagles at 12 p.m. in Conte Forum. That game can be seen on ACCN Extra.
