Team Basketball Sends Northeastern Past North Carolina A&T, 85-74

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Northeastern men's basketball team (5-8, 1-1) closed 2025 in style, putting three players in double figures and shooting above 50% for the second straight game en route to a hard-fought road victory at North Carolina A&T (7-6, 0-2) on Wednesday afternoon at the Corbett Sports Center, 85-74.

In a physical battle that saw a combined 43 fouls called, the Huskies got contributions from up and down the lineup highlighted by 22 points apiece from Xavier Abreu and William Kermoury, along with 14 from Youri Fritz. Abreu showed up when the team needed him most, going for 18 in the second half, while Kermoury hit six threes for the second straight game and took a crucial charge at the other end late in the game.

Northeastern was in control for the majority of the contest, leading for 36 minutes and shooting 54% overall (30-of-56), the fourth time this season that the Huskies have made at least 30 field goals in a game. NU had 17 assists on those 30 made buckets, led by four from Mike Loughnane, and also tied a season-low with just seven turnovers while converting 11 A&T miscues into 17 points

The Huskies came out firing in the first half, shooting 57% as a team and building a lead of as many as nine thanks to an 11-2 run midway through the half before taking a 44-36 advantage into the break. Northeastern got the three-ball going late, with Kermoury connecting on each of his last three attempts before halftime.

The Aggies would open the second half on a 10-2 run to level the game at 46 less than three minutes in before the teams went back and forth over the next seven minutes to find themselves knotted again at 57 midway through the half.

Abreu and Kermoury sent Northeastern on a 10-2 run from there to give the visitors the lead for good with more than eight minutes to go. North Carolina A&T would bring it within a possession with 5:25 left, but a quick 5-0 response from the Huskies put Northeastern back up by two possessions the rest of the way before closing the game on an 8-2 run to go up by double digits.

For the Aggies, Will Felton and Trent Middleton Jr. had 16 points each to lead four players in double figures as North Carolina A&T finished 46% from the field and just 28% from distance.

The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday when Northeastern heads to Campbell for a 12 p.m. tip on CBS Sports Network.
