BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team (4-5) received 18 points from
William Kermoury, and the Huskies held Central Connecticut (5-4) to just 33% shooting from the field to build an early lead and never look back on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center, 73-56.
The Blue Devils led for the first 1:41 of the game before Northeastern responded with a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes to for the first and only lead change of the contest. From there it was all Huskies, who led by 14 at halftime and as many as 27 in the game, finishing the day shooting 46% (26-of-56) overall and 9-of-25 from three-point range.
Kermoury was the difference maker from long range, going 6-of-12 on the day, the most three-point makes for a Husky since Coleman Stucke in 2023.
Freshman
Ty Francis provided a presence down low for the Huskies, going for a double-double off the bench (10 points, 12 rebounds) along with three blocks to get the job done at both ends of the floor. Fellow rookie
Xavier Abreu was also a spark off the bench, pouring in 15 points while adding six rebounds and two assists in just over 20 minutes of action.
Mike Loughnane chipped in nine points and four assists, while
Liam Koelsch added six points and seven rebounds in their first starts of the year for a Northeastern squad playing with a short bench.
For Central Connecticut State, Jay Rodgers paced the Blue Devils with 12 points and seven assists. Darin Smith Jr. also reached double figures with 12 points along with five rebounds. CCSU struggled to solve the Northeastern defense all day, finishing 21-of-63 overall and 4-of-17 from three while the Huskies controlled the glass, 43-35.
Northeastern will have nearly two weeks off before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 20 at Syracuse. Tip-off at the JMA Wireless Dome is set for 4 p.m. on the ACC Network.
