Huskies Take Down Camels, 67-58

Story Links

BOSTON – In the second game of their four-game home stand, the Northeastern Huskies (14-12, 6-7 CAA) halted the seven-game win streak of the Campbell Camels (14-12, 9-4 CAA), taking a home victory in Matthews Arena on Thursday night by a final score of 67-58.

Northeastern was once again led by a 20-point night from Rashad King, who finished with 24 on 9-for-19 from the field (.473), three 3-pointers, and 3-for-3 at the free throw line. He also added in two boards, and one block, steal, and assist. Harold Woods notched his sixth double-double of the season of 14 points (6-for-16, .375) and a team-high 12 rebounds. Woods also led the team in steals and assists, with four each. LA Pratt also broke double figures with 11 points, four boards, three assists, and four steals.

Alexander Nwagha got his first start of the season and notched season-highs in minutes (23) and rebounds (9) while pressuring the Camels defensively, forcing multiple turnovers, while also grabbing two steals and swatting two blocks.

For King, it was his third straight appearance scoring 20 or more points – he's done so in five of his last eight. For Woods, it was his third straight game scoring in double figures, reaching 10+ in six of his last eight.

The two teams were relatively even in situational scoring – Northeastern led in second chance points, 18-14, while Campbell led in bench points, 14-2. The Huskies scored just two more points in the paint than the Camels (34-32), while the Camels out-rebounded the Huskies by just one (39-38).

Campbell had the better shot selection in the first, making one less bucket on eight fewer attempts, shooting 42% to Northeastern's 35%. The Camels pushed it to a seven point lead midway through the first half before the Huskies battled back with a 7-0 run to tie the game with 3:32 to go in the first. Down five on the last possession, Nwagha tipped in an offensive rebound at the buzzer to head into the locker room down 32-29.

In the second half, it was Northeastern with the better shot selection as they led Campbell in shooting percentage, 45% to 33%. Both teams came out firing, trading pairs of buckets before Northeastern tied the game with 16:15 to go on a three-pointer from JB Frankel. After a response three from Campbell to retake the lead by one, the Huskies tallied buckets on back to back possessions from King, followed by Pratt in the fast break, to lead by three and never look back.

Northeastern led by 7 or more for the entirety of the final five, sinking big three's and key free throws to keep a wide margin, and big defensive stops to keep the Camels from climbing back in it.

Northeastern is back home this Saturday, February 15th hosting Stony Brook on CBS Sports Network at 3:30 p.m. That game can also be seen on FloCollege.
