Godish Breaks School Record At Valentine, Huskies Battle at Eagle Elite Invitational

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams celebrated Valentine's Day with the first day of the Valentine Invitational at Boston University and the Eagle Elite Invitational at Boston College. Senior Ben Godish broke his own school record in the men's 3000m, as nine Huskies set personal bests across both meets.

Valentine Invitational

  • Junior Conall Rogers was the fastest Husky in the 800m, running a 1:53.46 for a top 100 finish. Freshman Ajay Raina also competed, crossing the line at 1:54.55.
  • Graduate student Daniel Caso set a new personal best in the mile to lead all Huskies. The Poughkeepsie, New York native crossed the line at 4:11.61. Freshmen Cian Gara Grady (4:15.74) and Jack Mattingly (4:19.60) also set new personal bests.
  • Godish cleared his school by one-tenth of a second in the 3000m. He recorded a time of 7:51.52 for 20th, setting a new fastest mark for the second time in the event this season. Sophomore Ryan Sarney (8:13.53) and freshman Nico Boyle (8:16.21) also set new personal bests, crushing their previous times by more than five seconds.

Eagle Elite Invitational

Track Events:

  • Graduate student Savion Thompson continued his impressive start to the season, qualifying for the men's 60m hurdles finals after finishing fifth with an 8.17. In the final, Thompson clocked an 8.16 for fifth place.
  • In the women's 60m hurdle, freshman Jaice Dorsey took 13th with an 8.89.
  • Graduate student Tristen Howard led all runners in the men's 60m prelim, winning the race with a time of 6.78, and sophomore Brunner Williams finished fifth with a 6.89. Sophomore Vance Thrope also set a new personal best of 6.99, earning tenth place. In the final, Williams took third after running a 6.85.
  • Sophomore Johnny Emmanuel dashed to 13th with a time of 48.71 in the men's 400m. On the women's side, junior Ariann Robinson earned ninth with a 55.80 mark, and freshman Morgan Hayward ran a 57.05 for a top-15 finish.
  • Freshman Sloan Hinton led all Huskies in the women's 800m, taking 28th at 2:15.21, and sophomore Waverly Hassman (2:16.83) followed close behind. Freshman Anna Lonergan also set a new personal best of 2:20.60, finishing in the top 40.
  • In the men's 3000m, sophomore Ryan Gruckza ran an 8:49.60 in his first attempt at the event.
  • Williams continued his electrifying afternoon with a second-place finish in the men's 200m, clocking a 21.22. Freshman Taeshawn Berry (21.88) and Thorpe (22.16) also competed, placing inside the top 20.
  • Freshmen Ailani Sutherland (25.78) and Zaida De Pina (26.21) earned 17th and 19th in the women's 200m.
  • Senior Lauren Trejo ran a new personal best of 5:05.58 in the women's mile, while senior Shannon Trevor ran a 5:09.57.
  • The meet concluded with the women's 4x400 relay, where a team of Hayward, sophomore Savannah Blair, Robinson, and Hinton crossed the line in third with a time of 3:47.57. That time puts them tenth on the All-Time Indoor Performance list.

The Northeastern track and field teams conclude this weekend's meets tomorrow with the second day of the Valentine Invitational, starting at 9:00 a.m., and the MIT Gordon Invite at the MIT Johnson Athletic Center, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
