NU Concludes Weekend Action At Valentine Invitational, MIT Gordon Invite

BOSTON – Highlighted by an All-Time Indoor Performance from graduate student Nicholas Pisciotta and several top finishes, the Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams completed this weekend's action at the second day of the Valentine Invitational and the MIT Gordon Invite.
 
Valentine Invitational
  • Senior Nicole Dunbury started the second day of competition with a top 75 finish in the 800m, crossing the line at 2:11.77. Freshman Alanna Hagen finished just outside the top 100 with a 2:15.69.
  • Graduate student Stephanie Kriss set a new personal best in the 1000m, crossing the line at 2:48.96 in 12th and breaking her old best by nearly four seconds. Senior Lucy Abdow also ran, clocking a time of 2:56.38 to finish in 24th.
  • Graduate student Azza Borovicka-Swanson was the fastest Husky in the 3000m, clocking a 9:48.58. Sophomore Keira Gamily ran a 10:00.22 in her first attempt at the race, and sophomore Natasha Sortland set a new personal best of 10:10.89, beating her previous time by more than seven seconds.

Track Events:
  • In the women's 3000m, freshmen Lily Poteet and Ella Dunbury cruised to a one-two finish. Poteet took first with a 10:35.36, and Dunbury followed in second, crossing the line at 10.51.58.
  • Freshman Emily McCann earned Northeastern's second win of the afternoon in the women's mile, finishing at 5:17.62 to champion the event.
  • Freshman Casey Rockett was the lone Husky to run the men's 60m hurdle prelim, where he logged a time of 10.19.
  • In the women's 60m hurdle prelim, freshman Genevieve Duchaussee recorded the fastest time, running a 9.27 to qualify for the final. Freshman Madison Phillips also qualified for the final, dashing to a 9.96 for seventh. In the final, G. Duchaussee earned second with a time of 9.35, and Phillips took seventh with a 9.98.
Field Events:
  • Junior Leila Curtis led all Huskies in the women's shot put, taking second with a throw of 13.54m. Graduate student Madeleine Duchaussee (11.50m) and senior Claire Kuzma (11.05m) added top ten finishes, while G. Duchaussee (10.34m) and Phillips (10.14m) made their first attempts in the event.
  • In the men's shot put, sophomore Ohan Ambartsoumian finished second after his second toss reached 14.55m. Rockett also debuted in the shot put, logging a mark of 9.70m.
  • Senior Athanasios Pantazopoulos championed the men's pole vault and matched his personal best of 4.85m. Junior Max Zuckermann (4.45m) followed in sixth, and sophomore Alexander Yuen (4.30m) and junior Kevin Xu (4.15m) took seventh and eighth.
  • Graduate student Hope Belvit reached 17.69m in the women's weight throw, finishing in second place. M. Duchaussee's throw of 13.89m put her in the top ten, respectively.
  • Sophomore Hannah Shaw finished second in the women's pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.55m. Sophomore Katie Rodriguez rounded out the top five with a vault of 3.40m.
  • G. Duchaussee concluded her afternoon of field events with fifth place in the women's long jump, reaching 4.75m. Junior Mia Belanger grabbed tenth with a leap of 4.52m, and Phillips took 11th after she jumped to 4.48m.
  • In the men's long jump, graduate student Savion Thompson finished eighth after reaching 6.33m. Junior Jordan Spencer (6.00m) and sophomore Ian Solberg (5.91) added top 15 finishes for Northeastern.
  • Pisciotta recorded a new personal best and All-Time Performance in the men's weight throw, reaching 19.20m to win the event and set the seventh-best mark in program history. Senior Tremain Robinson took third with an 18.17m, and sophomore Aidan Moreau (14.90m) and freshman Zackery DelSasso (14.20m) earned top-ten finishes.
The Huskies have two weeks to prepare for the CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The championships take place on February 26 and February 27.
