HIGHLIGHTS VS HOFSTRA
BOSTON, MA -- The Northeastern women's basketball team battled hard in the third quarter for the 61-51 comeback victory over Hofstra on Sunday afternoon. Abby Jegede led the Huskies with 20 points while Yirsy Quéliz added 14 points and Clement helped out with 12 points and two steals.
Northeastern forced 21 Hofstra turnovers, turning those takeaways into 19 points on the offensive end of the floor. Bailey Williams led the way individually with three steals.
After falling behind 4-3, Northeastern went on a 5-0 run with 6:11 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jegede, to take an 8-4 lead. The Huskies then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 16-15.
The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 33-28 halftime deficit.
Hofstra continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 36-30 advantage before Northeastern went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Alyssa Staten, to grab a 37-36 lead with 6:21 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Huskies added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 43-41 edge. Northeastern turned four offensive rebounds into five second chance points on the way to scoring 15 total points in the quarter.
Northeastern started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Jegede's layup, to grow the lead to 54-41 with 5:35 to go in the contest. The Pride narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Huskies still cruised the rest of the way for the 61-51 win. Northeastern took advantage of eight Hofstra turnovers in the quarter, scoring 11 points off of those takeaways.
Northeastern is once again back at home on Friday, Feb. 21 as they host Towson for their Think Pink Game. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on NESN+.
