THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- SHE KAN[DELL] DO IT: Freshman Tuva Kandell has posted four goals and 14 assists for 18 points, the best mark of any rookie Hockey East defenseman and second among all Hockey East defensemen. Additionally, her 18 points rank as the second-best mark of any rookie defenseman nationally. Â The Stockholm, Sweden native's 18 points are the most by a rookie Husky defenseman since Heather Mottau tallied 18 in 2013-14.
- THE SEASON AFTER THE SEASON: The Huskies can finish anywhere between the third and fifth seed for the Hockey East Tournament headed into the final weekend of the regular season. In the Hockey East Tournament, NU was last seeded third in 2015, fourth in 2018 and fifth in 2011. Northeastern has already clinched a bye into the quarterfinals.
- WHAT'S A CATAMOUNT?: UVM won the lone earlier meeting, 1-0, in Matthews Arena. Northeastern is looking for its first win in Gutterson Fieldhouse since a 3-1 victory over then-No. 11/12 UVM on Jan. 21, 2023.The Catamounts most recently dropped two games on the road at Holy Cross, by scores of 3-1 and 1-0. UVM won its last home game against then-No. 15 Boston College, 3-2. Lara Beecher leads all Catamounts with six goals, nine assists and 15 points. In goal, Jane Gervais has played the bulk of the minutes and owns a 2.61 GAA and .910 save percentage. However, Sydney Correa and Ellie Simmons combined for a shutout effort against NU earlier this season.
The Huskies will next play in the Hockey East Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 1 at a time and place to be determined by results from this weekend.
