Benjamin Godish, the Northeastern men's and women's track and field team completed the first day of the CAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with seven medals, five of them gold and two bronze.
The men and women find themselves in second place after the first day of competition. The Northeastern men are half a point behind leaders Monmouth with 52.5 points, and the women have 46.5 points and are two points behind Elon.
MULTI EVENTS
- Freshman Jaice Dorsey took fourth in the pentathlon with 3,433 points, a new personal best. Her top finishes were a win in the 60m hurdle (8.84), second in shot put (10.66m), and fourth in long jump (5.40m). Her classmate Genevieve Duchaussee also set a new personal best, accumulating 3,360 points to finish fifth. Duchassee's best events were second in the 800m (2:26.83) and fourth in the shot put (10.38m).
- Senior Paul Wisnaskas finds himself in fifth with 2,692 points in the heptathlon. His best finish came in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.89m to take third. Wisnaskas concludes the heptathlon tomorrow morning with the 60m hurdle, pole vault, and 1000m.
FIELD EVENTS
- Sophomores Hannah Shaw and Katie Rodriguez collected valuable points in the women's pole vault. Shaw tied for fourth with a vault of 3.68m, and Rodriguez matched that mark to set a new personal best, finishing sixth.
- Pisciotta claimed his third CAA men's weight throw title, recording a 19.00m throw to set a new meet record and take gold. Senior Tremain Robinson took silver in the event after his fifth attempt reached 18.41m.
- Sophomore Camryn Cole picked up a gold medal in the women's long jump, jumping 5.98m and setting a new personal best.
- Graduate student Hope Belvit championed the women's weight throw after her second attempt reached 18.76m, a quarter of a meter more than her closest opponent.
- Senior Athanasios Pantazopoulos scored the last podium for field events on day one, tying third in the men's pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.65m.
TRACK EVENTS
- Three Huskies qualified for the women's mile final, starting with graduate student Ava Duggan running a 4:57.66 for fifth. Graduate student Stephanie Kriss followed in ninth (5:00.76), and senior Shannon Trevor took the final qualifying spot after crossing the line at 5:02.37 for 12th.
- Godish cruised to the final of the men's mile, winning the prelim at 4:09.53. Graduate student Tyler Brogan (4:13.78), graduate student Daniel Caso (4:12.15), and freshman Jacob Redman (4:14.43) all qualified for the final as well, making the Huskies the most represented team in tomorrow's race.
- Dorsey added to her successful afternoon with third place and a new personal best in the women's 60m hurdle prelim, running an 8.73.
- Graduate student Savion Thompson qualified for the 60m hurdle final, taking fourth in the prelim with an 8.10 mark.
- Junior Ariann Robinson took sixth in the women's 400m prelim with a time of 56.02, and sophomore Brunner Williams (6.85) and graduate student Tristen Howard (6.79) followed in the men's 60m to qualify for the final.
- Senior Nicole Dunbury (2:12.99) and Duggan (2:14.14) grabbed third and fourth in the women's 800m prelim. On the men's side, junior Conall Rogers (1:53.39) and senior Reed Cherry (1:52.72) took fifth and seventh to qualify for tomorrow's final.
- Sophomore Savannah Blair captured sixth in the women's 200m with a time of 24.07, while three Huskies qualified for the men's 200m final. Williams led all with a 21.24, and sophomore Alex Landry (21.51) and Howard (21.61) grabbed the final two qualifying spots.
- Godish concluded his first day of competition with a gold medal in the men's 5000m, setting a meet record after blazing across the line at 13:57.24.
- The Huskies closed day one on top, claiming gold in the women's DMR. The relay team of senior Lucy Abdow, freshman Morgan Hayward, sophomore Brittani Westberry, and graduate student Lena Lebrun finished at 11:45.34, making it the sixth-fastest time in program history.
