BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team (16-14, 8-9) had 20 assists and just three turnovers, hitting a season-high 12 three pointers along the way to knock off North Carolina A&T (7-23, 3-14) on Thursday night at Matthews Arena, 69-55.
Â
Rashad King put on a show once again for Northeastern, going for 25 points to lead all scorers. He finished 8-of-18 from the floor and a career-best 5-of-9 from deep to drop 25+ for the seventh time this season.
Â
The Huskies shot 42% overall and 46% from three-point range, while their 20 assists on 26 made buckets marks the third time this season that Northeastern has recorded 20+ assists in a game. Prior to the game, the Huskies honored
Alexander Nwagha,
Nate Francois and
Sam Thomson in a Senior Night ceremony.
Â
The Aggies, meanwhile, received 19 points from Nikolaos Chitikoudis and shot 43% as a team, while NU turned 16 A&T turnovers into 19 points.
Â
After Northeastern's blistering start prompted an A&T timeout less than one minute into the game, it was an evenly played first half with the Huskies shooting 39% overall to take a 34-30 lead into the break.
Â
King did it all for the hosts, going for 17 points on 6-of-13 from the floor (3-of-5 from deep) along with three boards and two assists, while
William Kermoury (nine points on 3-of-5 from three) added a pair of triples to help Northeastern lead by as many as seven in the opening half.
Â
The Aggies were paced by 14 points from Chitikoudis on 7-of-11 from the field to lead an A&T squad that shot 45%.
Â
North Carolina A&T got the lead down to as little as two points into the second half before Northeastern found its groove, shooting 45% over the final 20 minutes and drilling seven three-pointers along the way.
Â
An 11-2 run for the Huskies over nearly five minutes proved to be the turning point, as a triple from
JB Frankel put Northeastern up double digits midway through the half, 50-39.
Â
The Aggies would bring it within eight with 6:30 to go, but a trey from
LA Pratt (nine points, five assts, two steals) quickly followed by a dunk off an A&T turnover, put it away for good.
Â
Northeastern will head on the road for the regular season finale on Saturday at William & Mary. Tip-off at Kaplan Arena is set for 2 p.m. on FloCollege.
