STORRS, Conn. — The Northeastern men's hockey team was unable to make the third period comeback as they dropped, 5-2, to No. 9 UConn on Friday night.
- Following the opening 20 minutes of action, UConn took a 1-0 lead into the intermission. UConn would extend their lead to 2-0 at the 9:30 mark in the middle frame.
- Twenty second after UConn's second goal, junior Cam Lund would bury his 14th goal of the season to bring Northeastern within one. Following a feed by junior Joaquim Lemay to center ice, sophomore Dylan Hryckowian connected with Lund just across the blueline. With a few quick touches, Lund buried the puck stick side of the UConn netminder to make it 2-1.
- Before the period closed, UConn would tally one more to take a 3-1 advantage.
- Only 2:14 into the third period, Lund once again brought Northeastern within one goal, making it 3-2. Planting himself on the doorstep, the Massachusetts native scored his second of the night off assists from Hryckowian, for his second helper, and junior Jack Williams.
- During the final five minutes of the game, UConn would tack on two more goals for a 5-2 win.
- Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead totaled 28 saves in 57:38 minutes of action.
- Lund lead both teams with seven shots, while Williams and senior Ryan McGuire tied for a game-high 11 faceoff wins.
Northeastern is back home tomorrow (March 1) for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop against UConn for their annual Special Olympics game.
