King's Career High Leads NU Past Hofstra, 77-68

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – In the final contest of a three straight road games, Northeastern (13-11, 5-6 CAA) got the win over Hofstra (12-12, 4-7 CAA) on Thursday evening at the Mack Sports Complex, winning by a final score of 77-68.

Rashad King led the way for the Huskies with a career-high 28 points shooting 8-for-18 overall, and 12-for-12 at the free throw line. He also added five rebounds, two assists and a block his stat line. LA Pratt chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds, and team-high five assists, while William Kermoury (13P, 5R, 2A) and Harold Woods (10P, 10R) also notched double figures, with Woods posting his fifth double double of the season.

It was Northeastern's first win in Hempstead since 2021, with Hofstra winning six of the last seven in the all-time series since that meeting. NU shot 48% overall in the game to Hofstra's 37%, and out-rebounded the Pride 39-33.

Both teams started out cold, shooting a combined 4-for-16 in the first five minutes of the game. The Huskies and the Pride each found their shooting stride, though, and traded buckets and leads for the middle of the half, with neither side leading by more than three until minute of the half, where Northeastern took a five point lead. Northeastern pushed its halftime to seven after an 8-0 run from LA Pratt in the final three minutes of the period, on two threes and a final layup with two seconds left.

Northeastern had an efficient shooting line in the first, shooting 50% from the field and 6-of-12 from deep, while Hofstra shot just 36% and 1-for-8.

The second half was a defensive showdown with both teams unable to make a basket for long stretches, but Northeastern's first half lead and clutch free throw shooting kept the Huskies ahead for most of the second half, with only one tie and no lead changes in the second half. Both teams were in the double bonus with just under eight minutes remaining. Northeastern shot 21-for-24 from the charity stripe in the second half after going 0-2 in the first. Hofstra was 19-for-25 on freebies in the contest.

Hofstra tried to keep the game alive in the final minute with two quick threes after made Husky FTs, but Pratt and King put the game away late at the free throw line and a defensive stop with six seconds left helped give NU the nine-point victory.

Northeastern returns home to begin a four-game home stand this Saturday, February 8th at 4 p.m. against Hampton. That game can be seen on NESN+ and FloCollege.
