No. 13/12 Northeastern Heads To Maine

BOSTON— The No. 13/12 Northeastern women's hockey team are set to close out the three-game Hockey East series against the Maine Black Bears on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. in Orono, Maine.
 
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. DYNAMIC DEFENSE: The Huskies have three defensemen with over 14 points in freshman Tuva Kandell, junior Jules Constantinople and senior Tory Mariano. Northeastern is the only school in Hockey East with three defensemen with over 14 points. Mariano has 14 points, one off her previous career total of 15 points headed into this year. Constantinople is tied to lead all Husky defensemen with Kandell, with 15 points. Their 15 points, rank tied for fifth-best mark among defensemen in Hockey East. Mariano and Constantinople have posted 58 blocks to lead the Huskies, which is tied for the second-most of any Hockey East player.
  2. A SWEDE SENSATION: Freshman Lisa Jönsson leads all goaltenders nationally with a .950 save percentage and second with a 1.24 GAA. No other freshman ranks in the top-10 of either of those categories. She has posted seven shutouts in her first 19 starts. Her seven shutouts rank tied for the second-best mark in the NCAA. She was named to the National Goaltender of the Year Watchlist alongside teammate Paige Taborski. Jönsson earned Hockey East Rookie of the Month honors for her play during January.
  3. KEEP THE MAINE THING, THE MAINE THING: The Huskies will be looking for the three-game Hockey East sweep against the Black Bears on Friday for the first time since the 2021-22 season. NU won the first two games in Matthews Arena by scores of 2-1 and 2-0. Kandell leads all Huskies with three points against Maine this season, while junior Lily Shannon has a team-best two goals. Jönsson owns a 2-0-0 record with a .50 GAA and .984 save percentage. Maine and Northeastern have both gone to overtime in its past two games. The Black Bears dropped to Providence and Holy Cross, while NU beat UConn and fell to BU. Lily Fetch and Adriana van de Leest lead the Black Bears with 13 points. In goal, Julia Bachetti and Kila Lahtinen have split time in goal. Bachetti owns a 2.95 GAA and .900 save percentage, Lahtinen has posted a 3.26 GAA and .899 save percentage.
The Huskies will next take on Boston College in Kelley Rink on Friday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
