BUIES CREEK, NC --The Northeastern women's basketball team got a 19-point showing from the bench, but fell 81-41 to the Campbell Fighting Camels on the road Friday.
The Huskies (1-18, 0-10) had two players score in double figures, led by Natalie Larrañaga with 13 points. Abigail Jegede added 10 points and six rebounds and Mária Sánchez Pitarch tallied three points, four assists and three steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 12-6, Northeastern went on a 5-0 run with 3:15 left in the first quarter to narrow its deficit to 12-11, a score that would hold for the rest of the period.
The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 35-24 halftime deficit.
Campbell continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-26 advantage before Northeastern went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Yirsy Quéliz, trimming the deficit to 43-33 with 4:15 to go in the third. The Fighting Camels countered and stretched its lead to 55-37 heading into the fourth.
Northeastern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 81-41. Northeastern played well near the basket, scoring 30 paint points on the night.
Looking ahead, the Huskies travel to South Carolina for a Sunday afternoon matchup with Charleston. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
