Northeastern Finishes Fourth At CAA Swimming & Diving Championships

HAMPTON, Va. – The Northeastern swim and dive team concluded the 2025 CAA Swim & Dive Championships in style Saturday, taking home three medals and two awards en route to fourth place.

Senior Erin Murphy was named CAA Diver of the Meet for the second straight year after sweeping the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She is the eighth diver in CAA history to win multiple one-meter and three-meter diving events and the first since 2022. Diving coach Lauren Colby also brought home CAA Diving Coach of the Year for the third straight season, becoming the fifth coach in CAA history to win three yearly diving awards. 

The Huskies finished the four-day meet with 1,048 total points. It is the third straight year that the swim and dive team has finished in the top half of all competing schools.

  • Graduate student Emily Gjertsen kicked off the final day with a silver medal in the 1650 Free, setting two school records in the process. She swam a 10:04.03 in 1000m before finishing the race at 16:38.67 to set new best marks in program history. Sophomore Bella Busconi also competed, swimming a 17:03.33 for ninth.
  • Junior Anna Verlander kept the podium streak going as she earned bronze in the 200 Back, touching the wall at 1:56.61. Freshman Delaney Alonso took second in the C Final, recording a new personal best of 2:00.71. At least one swimmer/diver from each class set a new personal best at this year's championships.
  • In the 100 Free, sophomore May Bradburn missed out on a podium place, taking fourth with a time of 50.06 in the A Final. Senior Hannah Seward finished eighth with a 50.84.
  • Senior Stella Urness led all Huskies in the B Final of the 200 Breast, swimming a 2:19.20 to mark a new personal best in her final race.
  • In the 200 Fly, sophomore Mary Nordmann crushed her personal best, setting a new fastest time of 2:02.57 to win the B Final.
  • Murphy captured gold in the 1-meter dive for the second straight year, tallying a score of 294.30. She scored a 50.00 on her final attempt, a back 1/2 somersault 1 1/2 twist free to clear second place by 19.20 points. In the consolation, freshman Madeliene Wong took third and set a new highest score of 243.60.
  • The Huskies concluded the championship meet with the 400 Free Relay, as the team of graduate student Caroline Mahoney, Bradburn, junior Kotoko Blair, and Seward finished fifth with a time of 3:21.96.

Northeastern now looks forward to the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center in Piscataway, New Jersey from Mar. 10 to Mar. 12
