BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University baseball team (11-6) completed a three-game sweep of Harvard University (0-12) on Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, securing an 8-4 victory. A strong offensive performance from
Carmelo Musacchia, hitting a home run and triple, and solid pitching from
Jordan Gottesman (W, 1-1) and
Max Gitlin (SV, 1) propelled the Huskies to their eleventh win of the season.
- Northeastern took an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when Ryan Gerety singled to right center, scoring Carmelo Musacchia after a HBP and steap of second to make it 1-0.
- In the bottom of the 4th, Justin Bosland singled to left center, driving in Gregory Bozzo, extending the Huskies' lead to 2-0.
- The Huskies added another run in the bottom of the 5th when Bozzo walked with the bases loaded, scoring Musacchia to put Northeastern ahead 3-0.
- Harvard got on the board in the top of the 6th, breaking a no-hit bid with a bunt single and a single through the left side, scoring one run to narrow the gap to 3-1.
- Northeastern responded emphatically in the bottom of the 6th – after a Justin Bosland hit by pitch, Carmelo Musacchia homered to left center, his second of the season, increasing the Huskies' advantage to 5-1.
- Harvard mounted a comeback attempt in the top of the 7th, scoring two unearned runs to make the score 5-3.
- In the top of the seventh, the Huskies faced a bases loaded, two-out situation, with a fly ball leaving play over the left field fence - Harrison Feinberg lept to catch the ball over the wall, securing the final out of the inning and stranding the bases loaded.
- The Huskies added an insurance run in the bottom of the 7th when Gregory Bozzo grounded out to shortstop, bringing home Jack Goodman to make it 6-3.
- Northeastern extended their lead in the bottom of the 8th as Musacchia tripled to left center, scoring Eric Cha, followed by Feinberg singling up the middle to drive in Musacchia, making the score 8-3.
- Harvard scored one final run in the top of the 9th due to a throwing error, but it wasn't enough as the Huskies secured the 8-4 victory.
- Jordan Gottesman earned the win for Northeastern, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts. It was his longest outing as a Husky and his most strikeouts this year.
- Max Gitlin recorded the save, entering with a 6-3 lead and two runners on, working 1.1 innings and allowing one run on two hits and no walks.
- Working the middle of the two was Cooper McGrath, who entered in the seventh with a 5-1 lead. He allowed four hits but just one earned run with three strikeouts.
- Northeastern's offense tallied seven hits, including a triple and a home run by Carmelo Musacchia, who also recorded two runs scored and two RBIs.
- Gregory Bozzo contributed two RBIs, while Ryan Gerety and Justin Bosland each added one RBI for the Huskies.
- The Huskies sweep the Crimson in the first three-game series between the two programs, opening up Friedman Diamond for the 2025 season with a 3-0 record.
- Northeastern has swept its last two weekend series, the first back to back sweep since the 2023 season. The Huskies have won seven of their last eight contests as they enter the first week of conference play.
