BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University baseball team (12-8, 0-1 CAA) dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Towson Tigers (8-15, 1-0 CAA) in eleven innings on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond in their conference opener.
- The Huskies took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning. Harrison Feinberg singled through the left side, driving in Carmelo Musacchia, who led off the inning with an HBP, to put Northeastern on the board 1-0 .
- The Huskies added another run in the same inning when Gregory Bozzo laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the first base line, allowing Will Fosberg to score, extending their lead to 2-0.
- Northeastern's pitching staff kept Towson off the board for the first three innings. Charlie Walker started on the mound for the Huskies, his first career start, and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six hits and striking out six batters.
- Brett Dunham followed Walker and also delivered a strong performance, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out two.
- Dunham and Walker combined for 10 innings total with no walks and only two unearned runs.
- Towson cut into the lead with an RBI single in the fourth, and a throwing error in the eighth inning allowed a runner to round third and score to tie the game, 2-2.
- The game went into extra innings, and on a day that the wind was blowing straight in the entire game, it died out for long enough for a Towson go-ahead solo shot to left field in the top of the 11th inning.
- The Huskies went 1-2-3 in both of the extra innings, falling in their CAA opener for the second straight season. In 2024, NU fell 3-2 to Hofstra in game one of their series before winning games two and three 13-9 and 13-5.
- It's NU's first loss of the season when leading after seven innings (10-1 record).
- Northeastern has already played three extra-inning games in its first 20 - in previous seasons, the Huskies played three to four extra inning games in their entire season.
The two teams meet again on Saturday afternoon, March 22 at Friedman Diamond. That game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on FloCollege.
