BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University baseball team (13-8, 1-1 CAA) defeated Towson (8-16, 1-1 CAA) by a score of 10-0 on Saturday afternoon in seven innings at Friedman Diamond. A dominant pitching performance from
Aiven Cabral in a complete game shutout, and a strong offensive showing led by
Alex Lane's (3-for-4, RBI) new program record, secured the decisive victory for the Huskies.
- The game remained scoreless for the initial three innings before Northeastern's offense broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Harrison Feinberg launched a three-run home run to right field, driving in Ryan Gerety and Cam Maldonado to give the Huskies a 3-0 advantage.
- Northeastern added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Carmelo Musacchia hit a ground-rule double to right center, scoring Alex Lane and making it 4-0.
- The Huskies extended their lead significantly in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs. Will Fosberg laying a bunt down the first base line, allowing Gerety to score from third and beating the throw at first for the single.
- After a double steal from Fosberg and Feinberg. Gregory Bozzo followed with a single to the left side of the infield, bringing home Feinberg for run number six.
- Jack Doyle then singled through the left side, scoring Fosberg, and after a hit-by-pitch to Musacchia to load the bases, Cam Maldonado singled to left field, driving in both Bozzo and Doyle, increasing Northeastern's lead to 9-0.
- Northeastern capped their scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning. Following a hit by pitch and a stolen base by Feinberg, Alex Lane singled to right center, scoring Feinberg and ending the game via conference run rule.
- Lane's RBI was the 148th of his Northeastern career, which sets a new program record for career RBIs. It was the 200th RBI of his collegiate career, after transferring in 2023 from Bryant. Lane surpassed Tim Daley, who had 147 RBIs during his career (1994-97).
- On the mound, Aiven Cabral (W, 2-2) delivered an outstanding performance for the Huskies, pitching a complete game seven-inning shutout. He allowed only one hit and struck out six Towson batters in an efficient 79-pitch outing.
- It's Cabral's second complete game shutout, after he blanked Delaware in his freshman season on 97 pitches in nine innings. He struck out seven in that outing.
- Northeastern is now 6-0 in game two of weekend series, and 7-0 on Saturdays.
The Huskies will try to win the series on Sunday, as game three takes place at 1 p.m. on March 23
rd at Friedman Diamond.
