Four Huskies Belt Five Homers In 10-4 Friday Win At Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – With just a one-run lead after seven innings of play, the Northeastern Huskies (16-8, 3-1 CAA) surged for five runs in the final two innings to take down the Stony Brook Seawolves (11-12, 1-3 CAA) by a score of 10-4 on Friday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.

Northeastern carried a 5-0 lead into the seventh before a Stony Brook rally in the bottom of the inning cut the lead down to one. A strong response from the NU offense, sparked by an eighth-inning home run from Jack Doyle, spurred the Huskies to a six-run victory.

  • Northeastern struck first in the second inning with a lead off solo home run from Harrison Feinberg to straightaway center for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Huskies put up a crooked number in the fifth inning off of three home runs – the inning began with a lead off single by Carmelo Musacchia, which was followed by a line drive over the left field wall from Cam Maldonado for the 3-0 lead.
  • With one out in the inning, Jack Goodman hit a homer to right field that snuck under the scoreboard for the 4-0 lead.
  • The third homer came from Jack Doyle with two outs – he sent one deep to center field for his second of the season, giving NU the 5-0 lead.
  • Stony Brook broke through in the seventh inning bringing in four runs on five hits to cut the Husky lead down to just one, 5-4.
  • Jack Doyle responded immediately in the top of the eighth, leading off the inning with his second homer of the day to kick off a two-run inning. Alex Lane would then reach on a walk, steal second, advance to third on a Gregory Bozzo single, and score on a Cam Maldonado sacrifice fly to make it 7-4.
  • In the ninth, the Huskies added on three more runs on four hits, starting off with a lead off single from Goodman.
  • Goodman went on to steal second, and with one out in the inning, Jack Doyle added another RBI to his line scoring Goody with an RBI single through the right side.
  • After a walk to Will Fosberg, Alex Lane doubled to left-center to score both runners for the six-run lead, 10-4.
  • The Huskies needed just two pitchers to secure the series-opening dub. Starter Aiven Cabral cruised through six innings before the Seawolves cracked the shutout in the seventh. He finished his day with just three runs allowed on four hits and two walks. He struck out six batters on the day, his fourth straight start with six or more strikeouts.
  • Charlie Walker entered in the seventh with a runner on second and no outs – he worked the final three innings with just one run allowed on five hits, with a walk and a strikeout on his line, earning his third save of the season.
  • Northeastern tallied 15 hits in the game, tied for the season-high with March 8th's performance at San Diego State in a 12-9 win. It's the most hits for the Huskies this year in a nine-inning game.
  • The Husky defense turned two double plays in the early innings and made several highlight reel plays to stunt the Stony Brook offense in all but one inning.

The series continues on Saturday, March 29th at 1 p.m. at Joe Nathan Field – the game will once again be streamed on FloCollege.
