Huskies' Homers Take Series Over Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In game two of their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (17-8, 4-1 CAA) ran away with it early, defeating Stony Brook (11-13, 1-4 CAA) by a score of 13-5 on Saturday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.

Northeastern jumped out to leads of 7-4 in the fifth, and 12-5 in the seventh, off of hits from every Husky in the lineup and five home runs on the afternoon. Leading the way was Cam Maldonado (3-for-4, HR, 5 RBI) and Harrison Feinberg (3-for-5, HR, triple, 2 runs scored) with a grand slam for good measure from Alex Lane. Feinberg finished his day just a double short of the cycle.

  • For the second day in a row, the Huskies tallied the first run of the game with a lead off second-inning homer for Harrison Feinberg, his second of the weekend, to lead 1-0.
  • The Huskies added another in the inning with a bases-loaded single to left from Cam Maldonado, scoring Gregory Bozzo and Jack Doyle for the 3-0 lead.
  • After a scoreless bottom of the second, Stony Brook answered back with a two-run home run to center to cut the lead down to one, 3-2.
  • Northeastern responded right away in the top of the fourth, with Bozzo reaching on an overthrow of first, and Carmelo Musacchia sending him to third on a hit-and-run single.
  • With runners on the corners and nobody out, Cam Maldonado hit a towering opposite-field home run to right field to tack those runs back on, with a 6-2 lead.
  • Following the homer, the Huskies got back to back doubles from Ryan Gerety and Jack Goodman – Goodman's sent Gerety home from second for NU's seventh run of the ballgame.
  • Stony Brook got another two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the frame to cut back into the deficit, 7-4.
  • Northeastern tallied two more homers in the sixth – Goodman hit a solo shot to the right field scoreboard to kick off the inning, extending the lead back to 8-4.
  • The Huskies would load the bases on singles from Feinberg and Doyle, and a walk to Will Fosberg, bringing up Alex Lane, who crushed one to straight away center for the grand slam and the 12-4 lead.
  • The Seawolves loaded the bases themselves and scored on an infield single before the Huskies got out of trouble, grabbing the final out on a fly out to center to hold the 12-5 lead.
  • After a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the NU defense, Will Fosberg tacked on the final run of the ballgame, a towering solo shot to the right field scoreboard.
  • Starting pitcher Jack Bowery worked 5.2 innings for the win, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out two in his outing, as his record on the season moves to 2-0.
  • The bullpen provided 3.1 innings of runless relief, headed up by 1.1 innings from Brett Dunham who stranded the bases loaded in the sixth as the Seawolves were threatening. He finished his afternoon with just two hits allowed and two strikeouts.
  • Working the eighth and ninth innings were Jack Cropper and Carson Walsh. Each delivered an inning of scoreless relief. They each allowed just one hit and struck out one.
  • The Huskies win the series with two wins over the Seawolves, the team's second straight CAA series win.
  • Five home runs ties the season-high for Northeastern – the Huskies also hit five homers at San Diego State in game one of their March 8th double header, which ended in a 9-6 win.
  • The Huskies allowed a rare 12 hits in the contest – they've allowed 10 or more hits just six times in 25 games played so far this season.

The series will wrap up with game three on Sunday, March 30th, once again streaming on FloCollege. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
