BOSTON— For the ninth-straight year, the fifth-seeded Northeastern women's hockey team will battle for the Hockey East Championship, taking on the second-seeded and No. 13 Boston University Terriers in the title game on Saturday, March 8 at 12 p.m. in Toscano Family Ice Forum. The championship game will broadcast live on ESPNEWS.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. KNOW YOUR HISTORY: The Huskies own the fifth seed in the Hockey East Tournament for the first time since 2011. NU made a run to the Championship game in 2011 as the No. 5 seed, falling to BC, 3-1. The lowest seed to win the Hockey East Championship was Northeastern as the No. 4 seed in 2018. NU is now 4-1 all-time as the No. 5 seed after defeating fourth-seeded Providence, 3-2 in the quarterfinals and top-seeded UConn, 3-1 to advance to the championship. In the championship game, NU is 0-1 as the fifth seed and 6-4 all-time. Against Boston University in the HE tournament, the Huskies are 2-5 all-time and 0-1 in the title game. The two teams only meeting in the championship came in 2013 with BU winning, 5-2.
  2. SKYLAR HERVING: A Hockey East Second Team All-Star, senior Skylar Irving has posted three goals for the Huskies through their first two Hockey East Tournament games. Irving leads all Huskies with 33 points and a career-high 17 goals, the fifth-best and fourth-best mark among all Hockey East players, respectively. She has posted five game-winning goals this season, tied for the eighth-best mark in the NCAA. In her career, Northeastern is 65-5-1 when Irving makes the scoresheet and she currently sits at 99 career points.
  3. BIG DAWGS GOTTA EAT: Northeastern and Boston University are meeting in the Hockey East Championship, the second title game these two teams have squared off in, with NU winning 4-0 in the Beanpot Championship earlier this season. The Terriers and Huskies own a 2-2-0 record against one another from the regular season, while BU holds the 2-1-0 edge in the Hockey East series. Freshman Lisa Jönsson posted the win in the Huskies' shutout of the Terriers in the Beanpot. She owns a 1.63 GAA and .943 save percentage against BU. Graduate student Jaden Bogden leads all NU players with four points vs. BU. The second-seeded Terriers defeated Vermont and Boston College to advance to the Championship, needing overtime in both series. Sydney Healey has posted five points in four games against NU this season to lead all Terriers. Callie Shanahan started all four games against the Huskies, posting a 2.16 GAA and .926 save percentage.
The winner of the Hockey East Championship will earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will air live on ESPNU on Sunday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m.
