Men's Rowing Set To Faceoff Against No. 5 Brown On Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Northeastern men's rowing team is traveling to Providence, R.I. this Saturday, April 19, to take on No. 5 Brown University on the Seekonk River. Races are slated for 12:10 p.m. (4+), 12:40 p.m. (3V), 1:00 p.m. (2V), and 1:20 p.m. (1V). 
 

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

  1. DREISSIGACKER CUP HISTORY – Brown holds the winning edge over Northeastern in the Dreissigacker Cup history, 37-25. The Bears have the fastest time in Boston on the Charles with a 5:30.4 in 2009, while the Huskies hold the fastest time on the Seekonk at 5:26.1 in 2013. In the past four pairings the two teams have split results with Northeastern taking 2021 and 2023, and Brown taking 2022 and 2024. The Huskies will be looking to bring the cup back to Boston. 

  2. LAST TIME OUT – Northeastern competed in the annual Arlett Cup against Boston University on Saturday, April 5, breaking the Cup time record by 6.2 seconds and keeping the Cup title. The Huskies' first varsity boat got off to a strong start jumping out to an early three-quarter of a length lead and maintaining it through the 500-meter mark. Then the NU Varsity made a strong push at the 750-meter mark increasing the lead to a clear water advantage and moved away in the finishing stretch. The Huskies crossed with a time of 5:37.5, setting a new Arlett Cup record previously set in 2005. (5:43.7)

  3. RACE INFORMATION – The one-day event consists of a head-to-head match-up against Brown University on the Seekonk River. The opening race of the afternoon will kick off at 12:20 p.m. as the varsity four will compete first. The third varsity will follow with their start time being slotted at 12:40 p.m. The second varsity eight will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the battle for the cup wrapping up the day at 1:20 p.m.
