BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Will Jones and
Charlie Walker combined for a five-hit shutout as the Northeastern Huskies (28-9, 11-2 CAA) took down the Charleston Cougars (22-14, 7-6 CAA) by a score of 4-0 in Friday's series opener at Friedman Diamond.
Jones delivered seven scoreless innings to earn his seventh win of the season while Walker closed out the final two frames for his fifth save. The Huskies broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the seventh before
Jack Doyle's eighth-inning homer sealed the victory.
- The game remained scoreless through six innings as Jones and Charleston starter Jake Brink engaged in a pitcher's duel.
- Northeastern finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh when Will Fosberg tripled to right center and scored on Carmelo Musacchia's RBI single to left center.
- After Alex Lane was hit by a pitch, Ryan Gerety singled to left field, bringing home Musacchia to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead.
- The Huskies added two insurance runs in the eighth when Harrison Feinberg tripled to center field and scored on Jack Goodman's sacrifice fly, followed by Doyle's solo home run to left field.
- Jones improved to 7-0 on the season with another stellar outing, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings while walking one and striking out three.
- Charlie Walker entered in the eighth and closed out the game with two innings of one-hit relief, striking out three batters to earn his fifth save of the season.
- Harrison Feinberg and Jack Doyle led the Northeastern offense with two hits apiece, while Carmelo Musacchia added a double, single, RBI and run scored.
- The Huskies managed eight hits overall, including three for extra bases - triples from Feinberg and Fosberg, plus Doyle's home run. It was the first game of the season in which Northeastern batters tallied two triples in a game - it was the first time the Huskies achieved that feat since last February, 2024 against Minnesota.
- The shutout was Northeastern's 10th of the season, which continues to lead the nation and extends the new program record (previously seven).
