WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- The Northeastern Huskies (31-9, 14-2 CAA) extended their winning streak to 10 games with a commanding 16-5 victory over the Monmouth Hawks (20-22, 7-9 CAA) on Friday afternoon at MU Baseball Field.
A powerful offensive display featured three home runs and 14 hits as Northeastern jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
Ryan Gerety (3-for-4, 2 RBI),
Jack Goodman (2-for-5, 4 RBI), and
Matt Brinker (3-for-3, 4 RBI) each homered for the Huskies to give NU a 10-run lead before the start of the seventh. Goodman led the way with his first multi-homer game of the year.
- Northeastern struck quickly in the first inning when Ryan Gerety led off the game with a solo homer to right field for a 1-0 lead.
- After Harrison Feinberg walked, Jack Goodman launched a two-run blast to center field to make it 3-0 before Monmouth recorded an out.
- The Hawks answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, but that would be their only run until the sixth inning.
- Northeastern added a run in the second on an RBI single by Gerety, who finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
- Matt Brinker had a career day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a homer, double, four RBIs and three runs scored. His two-run homer in the fourth extended the Huskies' lead to 7-1, and his sac fly in the fifth made it 8-1.
- Goodman added his second homer of the day in the sixth, bringing his season total to 10, to put the Huskies up 10-1.
- Alex Lane capped off the sixth-inning scoring with an opposite field RBI single to score Jack Doyle for the 11-1 lead.
- After Monmouth cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run inning, Northeastern broke the game open with five runs in the seventh inning, capitalizing on four walks and a Monmouth error, to regain a large lead going into the seventh inning stretch.
- Will Jones (8-0) remained undefeated on the season, working five innings to earn the win. He allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five, which included his 100th career strikeout.
- Gerety's lead off home run to start the game was the first homer to begin a game since Mike Sirota in 2022.
- Brinker is the first Husky to bat 1.000 in a game (minimum three at-bats) since last season, when Tyler MacGregor went 4-for-4 against UConn.
- It's Northeastern's longest winning streak since the record-setting 2023 season, when the Huskies put up another 10-game winning streak. Those two streaks are the longest since the 2021 season, when Northeastern tied a program record with a 20-game streak.
The series is slated to continue on Saturday, April 26th at 1 p.m. at MU Baseball Field. Due to weather in the area, keep an eye on social media channels (@GoNUBaseball) for any start time updates.
